MCMS Staff Update- August 21 - 25, 2023

Good Afternoon MCMS,

I hope everyone is having a great day!  Thank you for the adjustments you have made this week, especially with yesterdays internet issues.  Thank you for administering iReady today and next week.  This assessment will give us valuable baseline data for our students.  Our goal is to use this data to help drive instruction in all of our classes and to identify the areas of individual growth for each student.

Good job on the Fire Drill this morning!  We were all out of the building and accounted for in less than six minutes.  Congratulate your students on following directions and taking the drill seriously.  Drilling like this will help in the event that a emergency situation does occur.

Below are updates and reminders for this coming week, August 21 - 25.  I will continue to send this information via email and post it on the MCMS Staff Connection blog.  Please let me know if you have any questions about this email, upcoming events, classroom supplies, or anything else.  We are here to support you!

Instructional Update

  • It has been great getting in classrooms this week and seeing your high level of instruction.
  • Let us know if you have something exciting going on in your classroom, we would love to visit!
  • Thank you for updating your lesson plans.  LESSON PLAN SUBMISSION LINK.
  • Continue to reach out to our Content Leads for support.  They are there for co-planning, small group support, co-teaching, or covering your class to allow you to observe a fellow teacher.
  • Below are are Instructional Goals for the year, keep these in mind as you are planning your instruction.
Instructional Goals

Professional Learning Update

  • We had four great professional learning sessions this week, thank you again to those who presented.
  • Please fill out the Professional Learning Reflection form for your attendance from Wednesdays sessions.
  • We are planning for next weeks PL sessions and we are looking for two teachers to present.  Next weeks sessions will focus on Instructional Goal 3.  Please let me know if you would like to present.

Teacher Absences Update

  • If you have a planned or unplanned absence, email Ms. Whitley and me.  Ms. Whitley is the main contact for getting class coverage.
  • Thank you for updating your Split Lists, that is a big help with making sure students are in the right location.
  • If you have a planned or unplanned absence, please have work posted in Schoology for students to complete.  Take time with your classes to go over your expectations of them if you are out.  Having posted work for your students is very helpful for the substitute and if your classes have to be split.

Student Procedures/Behavior Update

  • Thank you for going over school rules and procedures with your classes.  We will still continue to reinforce these throughout the year.
  • We appreciate the ongoing parent communication, that helps build a strong connection of support for our school.
  • Students are settling into school and we are seeing a usual uptick in behaviors.  Please make sure we are using our strike system, notifying parents when needed, and letting the admin team know how we can help.  
  • We should have all of our 6th grade IDs and any 7th/8th grade IDs printed by Tuesday.  
  • If you need temporary IDs for your team, Mrs. Williams can get those printed for you.
  • Dress Code- Thank you for identifying dress code violations and sending us that information.  I know this is a never ending struggle and we will continue to work on our enforcement as an administrative team.  Please send me any questions about dress code.  

Facility Updates/Needs 

  • 7th Grade Main Entrance works with FOB but not key pad, students still need to enter on either end of the building.
  • HVAC issues seem to be slowly resolving, please continue to let us know if you have any issues. 
  • We have some small group desks in the Multipurpose Room available for teachers. Take a look to see if they will work for you, let Ms. Lisa know and she can move them to your room.
  • Please let us know if you have any additional classroom needs.

MCMS Staff Update - May 13 -17, 2024

Good Afternoon MCMS, Happy Mother's Day!  I hope all of our MCMS Mom's have had a great day and enjoyed some much deserved pampering today!  We have made it to the single digits, only NINE more days of school left!  We are excited to kick off our Awards Ceremonies this week, please reach out to Wendy if you have any questions or needs.   We had a fun 8th Grade Dance on Friday night, thank you to all of the staff who worked hard in putting on this great event!  The students enjoyed getting dressed up and having one final dance together before high school. I may have missed something in this update, please reach out if you have any questions about the end of the year events, summer school, summer activities, or anything else.  There is a lot going on and we want you to have the information you need!
