MCMS Staff Update- September 11-15, 2023

Good Afternoon MCMS,

I hope everyone is having a great start to your weekend!  Thank you for a successful (and busy) week at MCMS.  Great job on our Fire Drill today, everyone was able to get out in a safe and efficient manner.  I encourage you to routinely talk with your students about our safety procedures.  Those conversations and reminders, help in the event that we have a real life situation.

Make sure you are looking over the 2023-2024 MCMS Calendar for current activities and events on campus.  If we have any changes to the calendar, we will make sure to let everyone know.

Below are updates and reminders for this coming week, September 11 - 15. Please let me know if you have any questions about this email, upcoming events, classroom supplies, or anything else.  We are here to support you!

Enrichment Rotations begin this week

  • Look for information from Jared on Enrichment Rotations, please reach out to him if you have any questions.
  • Our Enrichment time (after we complete OBOS) will be valuable in supporting student growth.
  • Thank you for all the work you will do to get ready for these rotations and helping our students.

SLO/Evaluation

  • Make sure you have logged into sclead.org and signed the Orientation section.
  • I will be sending out sign up forms for SLO pre-conference meetings in the next week.
  • Those on formal evaluation will be provided with additional information related to your teams and next steps.
  • Let me know if you have any questions.

Grading and Parent Communication

  • Our interim period for 1st quarter will end on September 13th.
  • Thank you for your ongoing communication with our parents, I know they appreciate the timely grading and feedback.
  • Continue to encourage students to check Schoology and Parent Portal for grade information.
  • If you have students who are behind or getting behind, reach out to our content leads to help those students.

Instruction

  • Thank you for your participation in our iReady conversations this week, the data from iReady is great information to help plan and differentiate your instruction.
  • We look forward to having a week during first semester that teachers can visit classrooms and observe different teaching styles (more information to come).
  • Continue to focus on clear objectives, rigor, ongoing assessments, and student support.
  • Let us know if you have something exciting going on in your classroom, we would love to visit!

Ellevation Training

  • Below are the modules you should complete during the 1st quarter of school:
  • Pathway: Understanding Multilingual Learners: Intro to LTELs (Q1) and Intro to Multilingual Learners (Q1)
  • If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Carpenter for more information.

Teacher Absences

  • Thanks to everyone for your absence preparation and making sure your classrooms have what they need for the day.
  • If you have a planned or unplanned absence, email Ms. Whitley and me.  Ms. Whitley is the main contact for getting class coverage.
  • If you have a planned or unplanned absence, please have work posted in Schoology for students to complete.  Take time with your classes to go over your expectations of them if you are out.  Having posted work for your students is very helpful for the substitute and if your classes have to be split.

Facility Updates/Needs

  • Make sure all doors are closed and locked, safety is an ongoing priority at our school.
  • We have some small group desks in the Multipurpose Room available for teachers. Take a look to see if they will work for you, let Ms. Lisa know and she can move them to your room.
  • Please let us know if you have any additional classroom needs.
