MCMS Staff Update - October 30 - November 3, 2023

Good Afternoon MCMS,

Happy Friday and bring on the weekend!  October is almost done and the second quarter is going by quickly.  Thank you for another great week of teaching and learning!  It is going to be a beautiful weekend, I hope you will be able to get outside and enjoy the warm weather.

It was great seeing everyone dressed up this week, it was fun to celebrate Red Ribbon week and helping to promote living a drug free life.  Next up is Halloween!  We look forward to seeing which team can bring the best outfits, who can match Abby, Eric, and Jared from last year?


The 12 Dress Days of Christmas will be right around the corner too!

Make sure you are looking over the 2023-2024 MCMS Calendar for current activities and events on campus.  If we have any changes to the calendar, we will make sure to let everyone know.  

Below are updates and reminders for this coming week, October 30 - November 3. Please let me know if you have any questions about this email, upcoming events, classroom supplies, or anything else.  We are here to support you!

Bus Evacuation and Lockdown Drill

  • Thank you for helping our drills go smoothly this year!  Ongoing practice and drills help in the event that a real-life situation occurs.
  • We will be having a Bus Evacuation drill during recess time on Monday, October 30th.  Mr. Thompson will send additional information out about logistics.
  • We will have our fall Lockdown Drill on Wednesday.  Please discuss general procedures and reminders with your students on Monday or Tuesday.  Do not tell them we are having a drill on Wednesday.
  • If you need anything for your emergency kits, please let us know what you need.

Ellevation Reminder

  • Thank you for completing your Ellevation modules, we appreciate your commitment to supporting our multilingual learners.
  • After completing your module, implement one of the strategies and then reflect on that strategy.
  • The module completion and reflection should be on different days.  

Professional Learning - Second Quarter

  • Below are the remaining Wednesday Professional Learning dates for the second quarter.  The dates highlighted in yellow will be full faculty.  I will send additional information and reminders.
    • November 1st - Content Team Meetings
    • November 8th - Leadership Team
    • November 15th - IDM PL- Content Delivery
    • November 22nd - Thanksgiving Break!
    • November 29th - Coke and Conversation
    • December 6th - Early Release- Teacher Work/Collaboration Time
    • December 13th - Leadership Team
    • December 20th - MCMS Holiday Social! 

Ellevation Training

  • Below are the Ellevation Training modules you will need to complete this school year:
  • Semester 1: Pathway- Understanding Multilingual Learners: 
    • Intro to LTELs (Q1)
    • Intro to Multilingual Learners (Q1)
    • Intro to Newcomers (Q2)
    • Intro to SIFE (Q2)
  • Semester 2: Pathway- Developing Academic Language (4 modules in this pathway):
    • Intro to Develop Academic Language (Q3)
    • Develop Academic Language with Meaningful Messages (Q3)
    • Develop Academic Language with Strong Sentences (Q4)
    • Develop Academic Language with Weighted Words (Q4)

Teacher Absences

  • Please continue to post detailed assignments within Schoology for your students to complete.
  • If you have a planned absence, make sure the substitute has a laptop in your room and student assignments are easily accessible.
  • If you have an unplanned absence, work with your team to print any needed material.  The front office and administration are willing to help when needed.

MCMS Staff Update - May 13 -17, 2024

Good Afternoon MCMS, Happy Mother's Day!  I hope all of our MCMS Mom's have had a great day and enjoyed some much deserved pampering today!  We have made it to the single digits, only NINE more days of school left!  We are excited to kick off our Awards Ceremonies this week, please reach out to Wendy if you have any questions or needs.   We had a fun 8th Grade Dance on Friday night, thank you to all of the staff who worked hard in putting on this great event!  The students enjoyed getting dressed up and having one final dance together before high school. I may have missed something in this update, please reach out if you have any questions about the end of the year events, summer school, summer activities, or anything else.  There is a lot going on and we want you to have the information you need!
