MCMS Staff Update- October 9 - 13, 2023

Good Afternoon MCMS,

Happy Friday!  It is exciting to finish another week of school and move closer to the end of the first quarter.  Thank you for an awesome Club Day, students were very excited and enjoyed all of the different activities.  This is always a great way to finish off a fantastic week of school!

Make sure you are looking over the 2023-2024 MCMS Calendar for current activities and events on campus.  If we have any changes to the calendar, we will make sure to let everyone know.  

Below are updates and reminders for this coming week, October 9-13. Please let me know if you have any questions about this email, upcoming events, classroom supplies, or anything else.  We are here to support you!

Parent-Teacher Conference Day

  • Thank you for communicating with parents and getting them scheduled for meetings.
  • On Friday, we will provide lunch for everyone!  We know your schedules will be extra busy that day and we want to show our appreciation for all you do.  Lunch will be delivered to your location.
  • You will be passing report cards to parent at conferences.  Those report cards that are remaining after conferences, will be passed out on Tuesday, October 17th to students.
  • Please let us know if you have any questions for this day.

Grading and Parent Communication

  • Report Cards will be printed next Wednesday afternoon, please make sure all grades are updated before that time.  
  • As we move into 2nd quarter, it would be a great time for first quarter reflection of your assessments.
  • Take this time to also review the connection between your instruction and your assessments, particularly focusing on student preparedness for district assessments.

Instruction

  • Thank you for the content area updates during our team meetings this week.
  • As you move into second quarter, you made need to build in extra review time for certain topics or standards to ensure student mastery from first quarter.  Building a strong academic foundation is important for long-term success.
  • We will continue completing our weekly classroom observations using the districts Feedback Protocol form and the eLeot observation tool.  Teachers will only be observed with this tool one time.  We are working on getting the feedback from this form sent to you.  

Ellevation Training

  • Below are the Ellevation Training modules you will need to complete this school year:
  • Semester 1: Pathway- Understanding Multilingual Learners: 
    • Intro to LTELs (Q1)
    • Intro to Multilingual Learners (Q1)
    • Intro to Newcomers (Q2)
    • Intro to SIFE (Q2)
  • Semester 2: Pathway- Developing Academic Language (4 modules in this pathway):
    • Intro to Develop Academic Language (Q3)
    • Develop Academic Language with Meaningful Messages (Q3)
    • Develop Academic Language with Strong Sentences (Q4)
    • Develop Academic Language with Weighted Words (Q4)

Teacher Absences

  • Thank you for your early planning and communication with absences.
  • We are having to make a few last minute sub changes, thank you for your flexibility and the adjustments made by your team.
  • If you have a planned or unplanned absence, please have work posted in Schoology for students to complete.  Take time with your classes to go over your expectations of them if you are out.  Having posted work for your students is very helpful for the substitute and if your classes have to be split.

MCMS Staff Update - May 13 -17, 2024

Good Afternoon MCMS, Happy Mother's Day!  I hope all of our MCMS Mom's have had a great day and enjoyed some much deserved pampering today!  We have made it to the single digits, only NINE more days of school left!  We are excited to kick off our Awards Ceremonies this week, please reach out to Wendy if you have any questions or needs.   We had a fun 8th Grade Dance on Friday night, thank you to all of the staff who worked hard in putting on this great event!  The students enjoyed getting dressed up and having one final dance together before high school.
